WCPS' elementary schools are participating in a friendly recycling contest with Recycling Is Like Magic!, Ball Corporation and SA Recycling.
Founded in April 2022, Recycling Is Like Magic! coordinates the Million Cans Recycling program, serving as a crucial link between schools, the Business Alliance for a Sustainable Society (BALL) and scrap yards. The mission is to eliminate metal waste from landfills over the next 30 years by educating students on the intrinsic value of all metals and their recyclability at local scrapyards. Notably, aluminum can be recycled indefinitely, making it imperative that it never ends up in the trash. Through recycling initiatives, a single can could eventually transform into a new can, an airplane, an iPad or even components of a space shuttle.
Through engaging literature and hands-on educational programs, Recycling Is Like Magic! empowers students to understand how their everyday actions can lead to lasting, positive impacts on our planet.
